Regardless, it is still one of the most widely spoken languages around the world. That doesn't mean that some of the words don't have a ridiculous meaning in a different country, though. Hint: calling someone a brat in Russia isn't an insult.

In French, smoking means tuxedo. Nice smoking!

Possibly one of the most ironic words on this list. In German, gift means poison.

In Russian, it means brother. (брат) 'Sup brat!

No, not Darth Vader. In Dutch, vader means father.

In French, this is a paperclip. Anyone need a trombone?

Are you ready for a mind-trip? In Swedish, dump means bump.

In Italian, this is a chilli pepper. Tasty!

This means cellphone in German. Makes sense.

In German, this means awesome i.e., Das ist so hammer! (That is so awesome!)

In German, this means manure. Does the word misty refers to the smell of manure?

If you say this to a Japanese person they will understand good morning.

In French this means fart. So when you go to Paris, be careful when talking about your pets.

In Hindi, Urdu, and Farsi, this means snow. The barf is beautiful in winter.
